个人家庭庭院里的树叶通常用：用手持简单树叶扒慢慢扒成堆；用除草机把树叶像除草一样打碎然后不管散丢在地上或扒收起来；除草机可以收集入袋的也可；用手持电动吹叶机（拖根长电线）把树叶吹拢成堆；用手持电动吸叶机吸入树叶同时打碎入袋。 通常因为量大，还得再装入数个庭院废物垃圾袋中集中。各地政府或垃圾处理单位会通知何时会是市区收集树叶时间。也有地方单位会安排大型吸集机，沿着庭院马路边以大吸管收集扒好的树叶堆。收集到的大量树叶，与其它有机物（庭院废物）会被打碎，与土混合制成堆肥，装袋销售。也有直接掩埋的。偏远，量少的地方，许多入就收集成堆后，直接烧了。
